A good creative process needs both intention and surprise. If every result must match a fixed picture in your head, you may miss the most interesting possibility. AI can be useful as a source of variation, provided you keep a clear sense of what matters to the project.
Separate exploration from selection
Give yourself a short period in which unusual results are welcome. Combine references that would not normally sit together. Try an unexpected setting or a different scale. Save the outcomes without judging them immediately, then return to the original brief for a more deliberate review.
Keep the useful accident
When a result surprises you, identify exactly what makes it interesting. It might be a color relationship, a crop, or a texture rather than the whole image. Bring that detail into the next study. Surprise becomes a creative direction when you can recognize it, name it, and choose to develop it.
